Book Report Time

I've always loved to read. But in school - I hated writing book reports. So, maybe it's kind of crazy that I'm writing "book reports" on this blog. But at least I get to pick what books to read!

And this book, made it all worth it! I am a huge Dee Henderson fan. She is my favorite fiction author- seriously! I became familiar with her books in high school when I worked at a Christian book store. Each time a new book came out, we would get a store copy before the "for-sale" books would arrive. All the employees would anxiously await those store copies. I would take it home one evening and return with it the next day, finishing the creatively written pages into the wee hours of the night. The O'Malley series was the first books I read of hers. And Jennifer is the "final" book to the series. Following the lives of seven orphans who changed their last names to become a family, each book in the series would reveal a little mystery and a little romance for each sibling. - Except for Jennifer. When the series began, she was already engaged. And so, Dee Henderson has written the love story of Jennifer for all to read.

It was a small book. It was a quick read. Last night as I finished the story, I felt like I was back in high school, anxiously turning the pages to read more. Any O'Malley fans won't be disappointed. This book has been a long time coming. You'll find yourself falling in love with this family all over again. In fact, it's made me want to dig out the rest of the series to re-read. I knew what was going to happen. I knew she would fall in love with Tom. And I knew why her leg and back was hurting.  I knew the characters. But I kept reading - and I wanted to read more.

If you are new to Henderson - start with "Dangers in the Shadows." Then, read "Jennifer" -then read the rest of the series. I think you'll like it!

I also enjoyed Tracie Peterson's The Icecutter's Daugther.  Merrill Krause grew up with her father and brothers - caring for the house, meals and helping with the family business. She's a hard worker and a bit of a tom-boy.

Ruik Jorgenson travels to her town to help his elderly uncle with his furniture business.  He had been engaged to a family friend for many years, after two fathers decided their children should marry. Now that his father has passed away, Ruik has decided to call off the engagement - hoping to fall in love.

Upon his arrival, Ruik crosses paths with Merrill and appreciates her beauty and love for hard work. They both find themselves attracted to each other. But just as things start to move in the right direction, Ruik's former fiance arrives, claiming that she is going to have Ruik's baby. Will Merrill believe Ruik to be the trustworthy man he claims to be? Will Ruik marry his former fiancee? Will Merrill be destined to a life of taking care of her brothers?

Read this fun story to find out!

I am grateful that Bethany House provided these books for reviewing purposes.

If reviewing Christian books seems like something you may be interested in, you can see if you qualify here. You will need to be able to post a review to your own site (such as a blog) as well as to a retailer's site.

  1. I need to write my "book report" this week. I have already lent out my book Jennifer and one other person has already read it. Guess I should write the report!
