Read with Me

I love adding to our collection of Bible Story books. Although the stories are the same, the different illustrations and descriptions even help me, as an adult, to better understand these parts of the Bible. Angels in the Bible Storybook was a fun collection. Highlighting the stories in the Bible where angels appear to people or are instrumental was fascinating to me. I could easily name some of the stories but loved that this book helped me to remember a few that I had forgotten - a few less common ones.

Each story begins with a truth about angels that is depicted in the story. For example, "Angels don't call to let people know they plan to visit." or "Angels usually appear to people while they are awake - but not always." The scripture for each story is provided, as well, allowing for further study.

I loved every minute of planning my wedding. And I still love to help engaged friends with the details of their own big day. The Knot Outdoor Weddings was fun to look through. Beautiful photographs and fabulous ideas for weddings taking place in outside were described, categorized and explained. The glossy pages of this hardback book were filled with more pictures than words, which I loved.

These weddings were beautiful, but were definitely for those with a very large wedding budget! I think someone should write a book of practical ways to have a beautiful wedding without having to spend a fortune.

Jen Turano has done it again. I loved reading Playing the Part. This mystery/romance is entertaining. comical and well written. I found myself chuckling at a few of the scenes depicted. I was also eager to solve the mysteries and see if an unlikely romance would occur.

Surprised by the Healer was filled with nine ladies' testimonies of Jesus' healing their lives. Each women told of a different circumstance, but all found hope in the broken stories from the Lord.

The book is written in an encouraging tone, making the reader feel as if they were sitting down with these ladies for a cup of coffee. Broken marriages, abuse, betrayal, feelings of hopelessness...this was an encouraging read, reminding me of the invitation that Jesus extends to us. He offers healing.

What a great gift for a struggling friend!

Spy of Richmond by Green was a historical fiction book set in the midst of the Civil War. Full of dates, references and events, it should appeal to those who love the details of historical fiction novel. I tend to love more drama in a story. It was well written, but I've never been a lover of history.

It was the fourth book in this series. Maybe if I had started with book one I would have felt more of a connection to the characters. Instead, I found myself lost in the historical details.
