As our end of the year party for MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), we decided to have a Mom Prom.
It was a Roaring 20's theme complete with fun dresses, feathers and pearls.
Just us moms. No dates. No kids.
It was so fun to have an occasion to dress up. Some went all out. Some just came to have fun. I must say, I did get some weird looks as I walked through the church and preschool while we were setting up.
We had lots of yummy food.
I think the moms loved not having to cut up anyone else's food and getting to eat while the food was still hot. We love taking care of our families, but it was nice to have a night to ourselves.
Decorating with black, gold, and white it was fun to transform this room for our evening out.
We voted on "Best Dressed" and crowned Rebekah as "Miss Hotsy Totsy." She even had the adorable finger waves in her hair.
We always have fun when we are together. I have loved getting to know these moms this year - just knowing that someone else is where I am in life.
Our theme for the year was "Be You Bravely." As I have gotten to know these women, I have seen how each one is brave in her own way.
And as I have celebrated these mom's bravery, I have grown and found myself choosing to be brave more and more.
Whether it's a mother of triplets, a mom expecting her sixth child, or a first time mom of a newborn, we all have some of those same struggles, insecurities and challenges. We have learned that we can lean on and learn from each other.
I am so grateful that a friend invited me to be a part of this ministry. It's something that I would never have admitted that I needed but I don't know what I would do without it.
As we take a break for the summer, I am trying not to be sad. Instead, I am looking forward to next fall. I have already planned out some of our crafts. I can't wait to get back with these moms and maybe meet a few more.
There are MOPS groups all over the country. Each one may be run a little differently, but the support and encouragement is there. You can search for one in your area here. Or if you are in my area...come to ours in the fall! The Lord may have something for you to learn and gain from some fellowship with other moms of preschoolers.
I sure do treasure each moment spent with these ladies.
And, here's link to the video of our pictures from the year, just in case some of you didn't see them all last night.

My bridesmaid dress from your wedding would have been perfect for this event! Looks like a ton of fun!
ReplyDeleteSeriously love this idea - thanks for posting to the MOPS website! Hoping to convince my team to do it next year. :)
ReplyDeleteOur moms loved it and we hope to do it each year as our "End of the Year Celebration." Enjoy!
