DIY Mason Jar To-Go Cup

I love to drink out of mason jars. Somehow, it makes water taste better. It makes sweet tea taste sweeter.

Today, at MOPS, we made these easy to-go cups. Using quart sized jars, the moms quickly made their own straw hole.

I had originally purchased a punch (see it here) that made the perfect 1/4 inch hole in the lids. It was so easy. But - In order to be able to line the hole with a rubber gasket, I needed the hole to be 3/8 inch.  My husband gathered the needed tools for this project. We used a 3/8 inch grommet punch, a solid piece of wood and a hammer.

After a few strong hits with the hammer, a small hole was cut. Then the moms finagled the gasket into the hole to cover up any sharp edges.

I found an 80 pack of tall neon straws at the Dollar Tree.

Strips of ripped fabric, my favorite baker's twine or yarn pom-poms were available to decorate the jars.

I even made Hudson a smaller version  (half-pint).

I am hoping this will motivate me to drink more water! But, of course, you can fill the cup with sweet tea just as easily.

  1. Somehow I missed this post. How not cool that your punch didn't work. Good thing for strong husbands! They looked good!

    1. It worked...it just wasn't the right size. I needed a bigger one...and all the other options for the punches were smaller. Even if one had made a 1/2 inch hole, I could have bought bigger gaskets. Oh well.
