Book Reviews

I can't get enough of Dee Henderson's fiction books! Way back in high school, she became my favorite author. When I worked at a Christian bookstore for my after-school job, we would get in "store copies" of books. Whenever one of Henderson's books arrived, we would all scramble to be the first to get to take the book home. Then, I would usually stay up way late reading the newest story.

She blends romance with mystery in a way that leaves you guessing. Her books continue to be unpredictable! I love it that way!

Her newest book "UNSPOKEN" was one of my favorites so far. I found myself staying up way to late reading this gripping story of Charlotte.

Abducted and held captive for a few years, Charlotte has never spoken of what horrific things she experience during those days. Her wealthy grandfather has left her his estate, and she must creatively find ways to sell off this valuable possessions and collections.

Bryce, a coin collector and seller, finds himself purchasing large amounts of these valuable collectors coins. He is intrigued by Charlotte and can tell there is more to her story than she is willing to tell.

In order to inherit the largest part of her grandfather's estate, Charlotte must marry. Bryce volunteers for the job. You'll have to read the story for yourself to see what Charlotte decides. She must battle whether or not she will begin to open up to someone else. She will try to decide if she is really safe after all these years.

Read this for yourself. I was honestly holding my breath at times, just trying to read my way through gripping scenes. And, i was so sad when the book was finished. You can bet I'll be anxiously awaiting Henderson's next novel.

I also just recently finished Dani Pettrey's Shattered, Book two in her Alaskan Courage series.
I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed book one. After the first chapter, I was interested in the outcome of the story.

A murder had occurred. An innocent man was accussed and arrested. But there appears to be a lot more involved in the life of the victim.

The sister of the wrongly accused decides to figure out the truth in hopes of proving her brother's innocence. In the mix of this mystery and murder, there are romantic feelings between this sister and the sheriff. Both think that they are alone in their feelings. Will they be able to put aside their feelings to prove a man innocent. Or will these two find themselves in a relationship? The deeper they seem to dig into the mystery, more and more evidence points to the brother. Read it for yourself to find out the truth.

I am thankful to Bethany House for providing these books for me to read and review. I received a complimentary copy of these books from Bethany House Publishers, but I was not otherwise compensated for this review. All writing, thoughts and opinions are my own.

I also recently received a copy of Little Book of Great Dates by Dr. Greg and Erin Smalley.

This little leather bound book is pocket size. It provides 52 creative date ideas to help make your marriage better. My husband and I have made a point to schedule a date about once a week for the two of us. Now that we have a little one, this is more challenging. Sometimes, it might just be pizza and a game of Wii bowling at home. Regardless of the type of date, our relationship has benefited greatly from our commitment to schedule time together. And, it seems that we do have to schedule them. Like the book states, they won't happen by themselves. It takes effort on both our parts to make them happen. The results are worth the effort.

I think this book would make a great gift idea for a married couple. Whether they are newly weds or celebrating their golden anniversary, we all need reminders to make more of an effort to spend time with our spouse. My husband and I have even been known to make a date out of grocery shopping - I challenge you to find time to schedule a "date" with our spouse! And if you need ideas, this might be a great little book for you to pick up!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale, but I was not otherwise compensated for this review. All writing, thoughts and opinions are my own.
